Sculptra® is an injectable facial filler that improves the appearance of aging skin folds, indented chin surfaces, hollowed cheeks, and sunken eyes. The Sculptra®filler provides up to 80 percent improvement in the treated areas. It produces results that are fully evident in three to six treatment sessions and lasts up to two years. Sculptra® provides an increase in skin thickness, helping to create a more natural facial appearance.

Is it safe?

Biologically inert, Sculptra® poses no health risk based on immune system tissue rejection. Technically, Sculptra® is a synthetic formulation derived from naturally occurring lactic acid in your muscles. This same general compound has had years of successful medical applications as dissolvable stitches as well as soft tissue implants.

How does the treatment work?

Here’s what you’ll experience as you reduce wrinkles using the Sculptra® cosmetic filler. The treatment area, such as around your mouth or cheeks, will receive a pattern of carefully spaced volume-controlled injections of Sculptra® deep beneath the skin. Your body will naturally transport collagen and fibroblast material to the treatment site. After about two weeks a new structure forms, your skin thickens naturally, and your appearance slowly appears more youthful as wrinkles subside and cheeks take-on new definition.

Sculptra®injections are typically administered in a provider’s office and can take anywhere from fifteen to forty minutes to complete depending on the number and size of areas being treated. A local or topical anesthetic may first be administered and then small amounts of Sculptra®are injected into the skin through multiple injections using a very fine needle. Some swelling, redness or bruising may occur after injection though these symptoms typically fade within a few hours to a few days. Ice packs applied during the first twenty-four hours can help to reduce swelling. The treated area will need to be massaged several times a day for several days. Additional treatment may be required after several weeks. Most patients are able to immediately return to work and other activities, though excessive sun exposure should be avoided until any swelling and redness have cleared. Sculptra®can provide results lasting up to two years.
